Memphis Revisited

Something occurred to me as I listened to Memphis Lives in Me for about the fortieth time since Friday night. The two signature songs of the musical Memphis, the two epic and, quite possibly, iconic songs of this production, The Music of My Soul and the aforementioned Memphis Lives in Me are solo numbers sung by the White male protagonist. The Black female lead who was, ahem, a singer does not get that moment in a musical. Strange.
