Beck On Slavery

Let me see if I can summarize Glenn Beck’s lesson on slavery from his August 19, 2010 show. The first Africans brought over to colonial America were done so as indentured servants. After a period of time, they were granted freedom while being denied citizenship and most other rights. Anthony Johnson, an African who earned his way out of indentured servitude went on to own a servant of his own and later sued to maintain possession of this servant for life. Thus, Anthony Johnson was the first official slave owner in America. This, Beck argues, makes Black people responsible for slavery, now White people.

The abolitionist movement was led by White Christians. The Civil War was fought by White Christians. Abraham Lincoln was a White Christian. Therefore, it was White Christians who freed the slaves.

Yes, Glenn Beck thinks that Black people are responsible for slavery in America, White Christians are responsible for ending it, and we Black people have nobody but ourselves to blame for it.
